Top 5 Outdoor Games to Pack for Your Family Camping Trip

When you're out at the campsite, there's nothing better than gathering outside and playing games that get everyone laughing, moving, and maybe even a little competitive. Whether you’re looking for something laid-back or a bit more active, having a few go-to outdoor games at your site adds a whole new layer of fun to your weekends.

After trying out lots of games with our own crew (adults and kids alike), here are our top 5 favourites that we always recommend for a great time outdoors:

1. Bocce Ball

A camping classic! Bocce is easy to learn, super portable, and great for players of all ages. You can play on gravel, grass, sand—whatever your site has. It’s a game of strategy, but casual enough that you can play with a drink in hand and a kid on your hip.

2. Cornhole

If you haven’t played cornhole yet, you’re missing out. It’s one of those games that looks simple but hooks everyone in with just the right mix of skill and luck. Kids, teens, and grandparents can all get into the fun—and it's perfect for tournaments with friends.

3. Washer Toss

Kind of like cornhole’s cousin, washer toss is compact, competitive, and seriously fun. The small size makes it easy to store in your trailer or trunk, and the game itself keeps everyone entertained for hours.

4. Giant Jenga

This one’s always a hit with families. You can buy a giant Jenga set or make your own, and the suspense of watching it teeter and fall never gets old. Bonus: it’s perfect for rainy days under the awning too.

5. Frisbee Golf (or just a good old frisbee!)

Whether you set up targets around your site or just toss a disc around, frisbee is a simple, timeless way to stay active. You can even create your own mini “Frisbee golf” course through trees and picnic tables.

Why Pack the Games?

  • They encourage quality time away from screens.

  • They’re a great way to meet other campers (who can resist jumping in on a game of cornhole?).

  • They help keep the kids (and grown-ups) busy in between swims and hikes.

Camping is all about connection, and a few great games can turn a quiet afternoon into the highlight of the weekend. So next time you're loading up the trailer, don’t forget to toss in one (or all!) of these family favourites.

Happy playing!
