Taco-In-A-Bag Recipe for Camping
The Best “Taco in a Bag” Recipe for Camping—Easy, Tasty, and Kid-Approved!
If you’ve ever been camping with hungry kids (or adults!), you know the importance of a quick, delicious meal that doesn’t require a ton of dishes. Enter: Taco in a Bag—aka the perfect campground dinner. It’s crunchy, cheesy, full of flavour, and best of all, totally customizable.
We’ve made these on so many camping trips now, and every time someone new tries them, they ask for the recipe. So here it is—our go-to Taco in a Bag, made campground-style!
What You’ll Need:
Individual snack-size bags of Doritos (or plain tortilla chips)
Ground beef (or ground turkey/plant-based crumbles)
Taco seasoning packet
Toppings galore:
Shredded cheese
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Sour cream
Salsa
Jalapeños
Avocado or guacamole
Green onions
How to Make It:
Cook your meat on the camp stove or over the fire in a cast-iron pan. Drain any excess grease and stir in taco seasoning with a bit of water. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
Crush the Doritos bags slightly to break up the chips—don’t pulverize them, just give them a good crunch.
Open the bags, roll down the edges to make them easier to eat from, and spoon the warm taco meat right in.
Let everyone build their own with the toppings they like best. It’s fun, it’s interactive, and no plates are needed!
Grab a fork and dig in! You’re eating tacos, camp-style.
Why It’s Great for Camping:
No dishes (seriously—everything’s eaten right from the chip bag!)
Fast cleanup
Kid-friendly and easy to adapt to picky eaters
Perfect for group meals or picky eaters—everyone makes their own
Fun twist on a taco night that feels like a treat
